Ad Campaign Project

Final Results

During the whole filming sessions last week I found myself stressing out about the whole thing, mainly because I was worried about how me and my partner as production designers were going to make this work. With the whiskey bottle we found out that we could fill it with tea to make it look like actual whiskey. I think the most difficult room to design would have to be the bedrooms because we had to fill up a lot of the walls but make it look exactly to the theme we wanted the rooms to be.

The room where the party scene was pretty enjoyable mainly because we found it a lot easier to fill up the space of the walls like for a few of the walls we added picture frames or used a gift wrap that kinda looked like a patterned wallpaper. At first I thought we went to mainstream with everything but when the lighting was all set I could see it all work together. For a few of the party scenes some of us students had to fill in for certain sections, I was kinda annoyed with myself because I was wearing a slightly red t-shirt and lighting crew used a red gel for the lighting, so pretty much the colour scheme fail every time I was in the path of the red light.

I found the filming for the second room horrible with the way I had to set it not because the wall or anything but by how I had to tell one of the main actors how to place themselves for this scene, I understood why I was told to help because we wanted to make sure the actor was comfortable even if it meant I had to stay in the room with them through majority of the time. Unfortunately I think everyone got quite annoyed with the director and how he treated a few of the actors, I don't actually think he realised how he spoke and treated them was rude, especially with our main actress, he made her uncomfortable with one of our main scenes that I actually had to step in and tell him off. Other than that I think the rest of the filming went pretty well.

Ad Editing Experiment

For our final project each student had to create the scenes for the ad but as as experiment adding sound effects and music when necessary, for my experiment I decided to use the scenes for the beginning of the ad, I didn't use any music or sound effects until I got to scene with the dad watching TV. Then when the boy is in the kitchen sneaking around is when I lower the volume of the TV sound effects.

Colour Wheel Scheme

I kinda forgot about this site last term, but I found this slightly helpful even though I am still having a hard time deciding on which colours to use avoiding mainly white as much as possible. With this colour wheel scheme it kinda helped on which colours that I would like to use base on the colour rule I would like to use.

Colour Rule: Complementary

Colour Rule: Traid

Colour Rule: Compound

Colour Schemes

For class as both Production designer and Wardrobe crew, I have to figure the colour schemes, this kinda would help if my partner with production design could actually help with ideas for how the room where the party is going to film should look like and what colours to use, then we can talk to lighting crew to help by asking about the type of lighting they were going to use, whether it would be coloured which I think it would be a creative way to portray the party theme in the ad. after having a quick chat with producers they told me the colours to avoid is white (which I already knew because it would reflect from the lighting) and red because its a difficult colour to control.

After talking to the producers I went on this site:

Looking at all the different types of colour schemes used for each film, I am still a bit confused with the whole colour scheme so I might continue asking for help from the producers, lighting crew and the camera crew.

Ad campaign- Crew Member Role

Role: Production Designer and Wardrobe Crew

For our class Ad project we were put in certain roles whether it was director, producer or apart of the film crew. For me I got two roles, I was placed as a Production Designer which is a person who is responsible for the overall look of the film, for instants for a party theme in the room we would have to decorate it to look like a party especially if the wall were empty, we would have to figure out how to cover majority of the wall and what colour schemes we would use.

My other role was being apart of the wardrobe crew, for this role I had to figure out the colour scheme for the rooms where the actors would be filmed and make sure it would work well, when filming a party scene you don't want them to all be wearing similar colours especially if you want the audience to find the main characters in the film. I'm also responsible for make up so powdering up the actors so the light won't shine off there skin during filming is also important.

In this class I have been chosen to be both production designer and wardrobe crew for the television ad our class will be making. Based off the theme of the ad I found out that there was going to be a party scene in the ad so from getting the idea from another ad I decided to use this one to help with how the room should look and how to dress the actors. The main thing I liked about this film was how the main character stood out with his green jacket and how the girl he likes stands out with the red jacket shes wearing.

Ad Research 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIX9oREk8Fw

In this ad I kinda thought it was a little bit boring, mainly because I kinda knew what was going to happen, but there was one scene I thought was effective and that was how they had the same guy who was raping the girl banging against a glass wall, yelling at himself to stop. Other than that I kinda got bored of the whole ad because the message seemed to go on for to long.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1tezr0_there-are-children-who-play-to-be-invisible_webcam

In this ad what took my interest was how the music was all happy and the scene was about the child making some kind of art work, in the process of it all you see the child is happy and is wearing his art work and then you hear a door slam and the boys face changes dramatically as you hear the sound of foot steps the scene shows the boy turning himself in drawers during this the music starts to slowly turn in to a sad tune in the end, which reveals the door being opened and shows the audience of a man who may come across as the father of the boy then the man leaves and the ending scene shows the drawers and the message, 'There are Children who play to be invisible', appears next to the drawers.

The use of lighting in this film was actually really well done what I liked about it was how it worked well with the scenes, so when it was happy scene the lighting was brighter but as soon as the scene turned to sad the lighting was slightly dimmer than before.

Workshop Experiment

Lighting and Colour Editing Experiment

For this experiment I decided to put both experiments together. With the Lighting Experiment we learnt about the 3 point lighting, using the moving image studio we moved the lights and placed the lights around. This diagram is how our lights looked llike

For the colour editing the original film actually looked slightly different, I just changed the skin slightly by using After Effect. When in after effects I went into effects, clicked on Synthetic Aperture then dragged SA Color Finesse onto the the film then clicked Full Interface. Once in Full Interface I then clicked onto curves and moved the curves until I was satisfied with the effect I created.

Title: Quit Playing
Music Artist: U-Kiss
Source: Youtube

Honestly this music video as well as this song is about a girl who messes around with guys and there feelings. I pretty much had to research the english translation of the song to realised it was all about.

In this video what took my main interest of the film was mainly the use of lighting like in a few cut scenes like this one is based off 3 point lighting

Main source of light comes from the window.

The main lighting is from behind the car, lighting on the drivers side of the car but not directly on the side it actually looks like its angled so it doesn't directly hit the guy and the women in the car.

After Effects used to make a black and white scene have a colour stand out like in this scene it's used to bring out the red of the girls shorts.

The music video starts off with a girl who has been kidnapped by a gang, then the scene cuts to the to the group outside the hangout where the

In this film my main interests was the way the lighting of the film there were scenes where the main source of lighting either came from a window or fire. I'm sure that a few of the lights had coloured gels on them cause of how the members of the group had a slight reddish/purple tint on there skin.

The lighting of the fire as well as light from the windows create a 2 point lighting effect since there is lighting shown through the opening in the wall. Then the scene cuts to the group dance but the lighting changes to 3 point lighting.

Throughout the film there were only a few scenes where the use of gel lights weren't used. In my opinion it did create a effect but in the close ups I wouldn't have used them but if I did I would have tried to diffuse the colour so that the light didn't completely colour there faces.

Title: Numbers
Artist: Matias Caruso
Source: Vimeo

While watching the film I slowly got the story of the film a bit more, the story is about a young man with a special ability, he sees numbers floating above peoples heads. The young man doesn't understand the ability he has, but later on he meets a woman with a similar ability. But her ability is much more perfected compared to his and she helps him understand his power better.

When I first watched this film I instantly thought of Death Note with the numbers above peoples head that either count down or up. But unlike death note where if you possess the eyes of the Shinigami they see the amount of time a person has until they die, where else this film tells us that there are different reasons for the numbers besides seeing someone lifespan.

I later on found out how the artist of this film made the numbers appear above people heads by using Adobe After Effects. I actually don't know how to exactly explain it but with the help of Youtube videos I slowly got an understanding of the effect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZtc7WCIjGU

I think my favourite scene of the whole film was near the end when the woman tells the man about "reapers" who are people who can see the amount of days people have until they die, as soon as the time hits midnight there numbers go down. Her phone alarm then goes off showing the time is midnight, the man looks at her number to realise it changed from 30 to 29. This then shows us that he's in fact a reaper and is hurt to see how long her life span is.

Workshop Experiment

Audio Mixing

For class today we were learning about audio mixing which is where you add music to a video, this is an experiment that I used premiere and soundcloud. Soundcloud is where I got my music from, for music I needed it to be mainly instrumental so that it wouldn't clash with the talking from the film. With Premiere I learnt a new technique where I can make the music volume go down when the person is speaking without cutting the a music audio, by doing this the change of volume is a lot smoother.

Audio Mixing Experiment

For this experiment I used my interview experiment film then add a different track and using the technique I learnt in the film. It actually made a huge improvement to the film compared to my other film where the music actually had the singers voice clash with the girl that I had to turn the volume down a lot of the time. But with audio mixing it made my film actually come across as more professional.

Workshop Experiment

Re-Cut Experiment

For a film experiment we had to download a film and then using premiere cut the film up and rearrange the each cut to the music of the film to our own liking. With mine I used the film Rippled from Vimeo, mainly because the video took my interest with the light painting techniques and the music worked well when the clips were cut up and placed in different parts of the film.

Workshop Experiment

RGB Split Effect

From watching the film, LIFE & LIMBS- Fingers Fall I found my self liking the film mainly because of the RGB Split effect, so I've decided to try making a similar effect to one of my films. Using an old video clip of mine, I went on Premiere and tried to create a RGB split effect. To do this I had to duplicate the same video three times, then going through effect setting, I click dragged RGB Curve effect on to each video, each video being one of each of the 3 colours, one red, one blue and one green. Then using the move tool I moved 2 of the 3 films differently so that the colour effects would be shown throughout the film.

Workshop Experiment 1

Interview Experiment

In this interview I used mainly cut scenes and audio recordings to create this film. Instead of using a normal sound mic I used a radio mic, which is why the person being interviewed can be heard perfectly but the interviewer can be faintly heard. For the camera I had to change the lens to a 50  lens mainly because the library where we were filming was quite dark and gloomy, and the aperture had to be changed to make it a bit more brighter.

With cutting the scenes and audio recordings, I found it very difficult to match both audio and film together because the first time we did the interview we didn't actually record the audio. So when we did the interview again there were a lot more mistakes which is why it made it more difficult to sync it perfectly together, in the end I had to sync both the audio from the video and mic audio until it was perfect.

The music I used was the closing theme song of Ouran High School Host Club, the reason why I did this was because in the interview the girl told the audience that one of her favorite anime. With the music I had to change volume, so it wouldn't go over the girl talking.
